SD card has been widely used in digital devices such as smartphones, pads, camera etc. It does convenient our life as it expand the storage space for our digital device. However, at the same time, it also causes troubles to us. Most common is losing data from SD cards.

However, there is still another problem troubles us that is the physical damage of SD cards. Being so tiny and fragile, SD cards are susceptible to physical damage. Before you throw away your broken SD card and shed tears over the information you may have lost, use a simple procedure to fix it.

The most commonly physically damage of SD cards is breaking at the locking mechanism located near the metal connections. If this is the case, then it’s an easy fix. Step 1: Find where the locking mechanism once was, there will be a small empty groove near the metal connections.

Step 2: Place a small piece of Scotch tape over the grove to make it flush with the rest of the card. Do not tape over any of the metal connections.

Step 3: Insert the mended card into your computer and you should now be able to recover any data that was on it prior to the crack.

Step 1: Press your SD card together firmly to close the crack as much as possible.

Step 2: Apply a small piece of scotch tape around the card to keep the crack closed. Do not tape over any metal connections.

Step 3: Insert the SD card into your computer; if you still can’t recover the information, then the card must be replaced.

Usually, physical damage such as broken locking mechanism and large crack are not easy to repair. If you encounter these two damages you can try the way I talked above. However, most time you will find it doesn’t work very well.

  1. I just wanted to share my experience with this. My SD card was broken (not in half but the bottom part that sticks out of my macbook was kinda crushed). It contained pictures documenting my pregnancy and I was very desperate to retrieve them. After searching online for different solutions and trying different things, Recoverfab kept coming up and I decided to take the risk and send it to them in Germany.

I had even lost some pictures in a card malfunction before the card broke and they were also retrieved.
